Warren Denton

Warren Denton was captain of the HHS football team that defeated Suffolk for the 1943 half-state championship. He was an end on that team and was described as a fierce competitor who played with reckless abandon. Warren was also a member of the 1944 basketball team that won the half-state championship. After graduation Warren enrolled at Randolph-Macon college, but returned to Harrisonburg and enrolled at Madison College. At Madison, he was member of the first men’s basketball team. In addition to athletics, Warren was a talented musician. He played trumpet and performed professionally with a band that appeared at clubs in Richmond and other locations. Warren was a successful businessman, operating J.S. Denton & Sons furniture store, a business begun by his grandfather.
