Richard Kelly
Contributor
From 1997 to 2012, Richard Kelly was a stalwart, though behind the scenes, contributor to the Harrisonburg athletic programs. Through his work with the HHS Athletic Booster Club Richard organized the group to provide funds for the Blue Streak athletic teams.
Despite a physical condition that confines him to a wheelchair, Richard has worked countless hours with the boosters club. Most Streak fans have come to know him as the “keeper of the concession stands.” For years Richard assumed the responsibility for buying supplies, opening the stands for all sports except football, supervising the concession stands and doing much of the cooking. The profits from the stands are used to provide material support for HHS athletic teams that would not be otherwise available.
In addition to his concession stand duties Richard has served two terms as president of the Boosters Club and also a term as treasurer. Richard is a 1972 graduate of Petersburg, Virginia High School and Virginia Tech. He taught for six years at Fort Defiance High School before entering private business. For several years Richard coached girl’s youth softball during the summer for the Harrisonburg recreation department.
