From 1986 through 1989 Amy Washington was a four year letter winner in basketball and track at Harrisonburg High School, excelling at both sports. In basketball, Amy earned All-District and All-Regional honors as a sophomore, junior and senior and was selected to play in the VHSL Coaches’ All-Star Game following her senior season. In 1989 she led the Streaks to the regional championship and a berth in the state tournament. Amy finished her HHS basketball career with 1,265 points, at the time the 3rd most in school history.
In track, Amy dominated the shotput and discus events, winning a total of 3 state championships in those events. As a junior in 1988 she won the state championship in the discus throw, then capped her career in 1989 by winning state championships in both the shotput and the discus. In her amazing senior year Amy was undefeated in both the shotput and the discus, winning every individual meet as well as the district, regional and state meets.
Following graduation from HHS Amy attended Chowan Junior College, where she played basketball, then graduated from Virginia Union University, where she played basketball and competed in a year of track. Amy is now a health care administrator living in Concord, North Carolina.
