Charles “Bo” Bowers was a three sport athlete at HHS between 1961 and 1964. He lettered 2 years in football, starting as quarterback, defensive back and punter. In basketball he was a three year letterman. Bo finished his basketball career with 676 points, at the time one of the highest in the area.
Baseball was Bo’s dominant sport. He lettered four years as a pitcher and infielder. In 1964 he compiled a record of 7 wins and no losses, finishing his career with a win over Lee High in the District Championship game. Bo went on the Shenandoah College where he played all three sports for two years. He then transferred to Virginia Commonwealth University, where he continued his baseball career. Bo compiled a .354 career batting average at VCU, including a .409 average in 1967.
After graduation, Bo coached baseball at Wilson Memorial High School from 1972 – 2000. His teams compiled an overall record of 375 wins and 201 losses, winning 11 district, 5 regional and 3 state championships. Bo was inducted into the Wilson Memorial High School Hall of Fame in 2005, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Virginia Commonwealth University Hall of Fame in 2007.
