Iris B. Hosaflook
Class of 1932
Athlete
Iris Hosaflook was an outstanding basketball player in the early days of HHS Girl’s sports. She played on the 1931 and 1932 HHS teams and was chosen Most Athletic Female in 1932. She remembers one away game when it was snowing and her parents would not allow her to go to the game. The bus stopped at her house anyway, and the players were able to persuade her parents to let her go with the team.
After graduation Iris entered Shenandoah College in Dayton and completed a two year course in one year. She worked in the City Treasurer’s office for 11 years, and then went to work at Harrisonburg Loan & Thrift (now SunTrust Bank) where she worked until her retirement as Assistant Cashier in 1983. Iris has been active in civic and church work for many years. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, and has been a member of Quota Club International since 1964. Iris was a volunteer at RMH and a caregiver at Otterbein United Methodist Church for more than 50 years at each place.
