Walter F. Green, III
Class of 1944
Contributor
Dr. Walter Green was a member of the Harrisonburg High School football teams that won the half-state championship in both 1943 and 1944. He served as a Navy Corpsman during World War II and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1950.
After graduating from the MCV School of Medicine in 1957 and serving his internship and residency, Dr. Green returned home to Harrisonburg in 1959 and established his medical practice. That same year he volunteered as the Team Doctor for the HHS football team. Dr. Green has served in that capacity since then.
It is a rare occasion when he is not seen on the sidelines on Friday evening. His unwavering commitment and dedication to the HHS Football program is unparalleled by any other single act or combination of acts of volunteerism in the history of Harrisonburg Athletics. In 2007 the football field at HHS was officially dedicated as the Dr. Walter F. Green, III Field.
