Leonard O. “Tom” Albrite

Tom Albrite was a three sport star at Harrisonburg High School in the mid 1940s. He participated in football, basketball and baseball. In football he was a member of the outstanding teams of 1943 and 1944. The 1944 team won the half-state championship. Tom was considered the best place-kicker in the valley. He once kicked an extra point at Fishburne Military Academy that went through the uprights, beyond the playing field, and broke the window of a church outside the field.
Tom was also a member of the undefeated Blue Streak baseball team of 1944. Tom entered the military while in high school and returned to graduate in 1947. Tom was the beginning of 3 generations of Albrites to play for HHS. His son, Gary, and grandson, Bradley, also played for the Streaks. Tom is a life-long resident of Harrisonburg and worked for the Virginia ABC board for nearly 40 years before his retirement in 1988.
