William “Bill” Horne

Bill Horne was part of the legendary athletic teams at Harrisonburg High School during the mid-1940’s. He was a four year member of the football team, playing quarterback on the undefeated teams of 1943 and 1944 that won the half-state championship each year. Bill was also a four year member of the Blue Streak basketball teams. He was the point guard on the 1943 half-state and 1944 state championship teams. Those teams lost only one game to high school teams over those two years. Bill was a member of the baseball team his final two years at HHS and played on the undefeated 1944 team. Mr. Horne considered it a privilege to have had the opportunity to play for coach Claude Warren and with a great and dedicated group of teammates at HHS.
