Lois Geil enjoyed a long career of athletics. She was an outstanding athlete at HHS then continued on to Madison College with a 4 year career there. Lois graduated to achieve an illustrious teaching and coaching career early in high school then at JMU. Her husband Charles "Tootie" Geil is also a member of the HHS Hall of Fame!
For three years Lois was on the ONLY girls sports team at HHS in 1944-46 - girls basketball. They were called "The Streakettes". She was named "MVF"- Most valuable female her senior year where her team was undefeated and District Champions. In her 1946 TAJ "last will and testament" she left her "penchant for arguing with Coach Claude Warren to anyone who dares to brave the storm." Lois was known to be feisty!
At Madison College she played on the basketball team all four years and participated in a number of sports clubs. Graduating with a teacher degree she went on to make a significant mark in coaching and athletic contributions.
She coached at Dayton High School actually beating her Husband's New Market High School team! From there she went to Madison College teaching a variety of team and individual sports for 22 years. She instructed Basketball, swimming, tennis, modern & folk dancing classes. She pioneered an equestrian program and was a state accredited women's basketball official.
Today she plays tennis, bowls, golfs and enjoys 2 hole-in-ones to her credit!
