Anne Scott’s accomplishments and post-season honors make her one of the most versatile athletes in HHS history, earning 9 varsity letters in 4 different sports including post-season honors in each sport. As a freshman member of the varsity track team she ran a leg on the 4 x 100 relay team taking first place in the district and regional meets and fourth place in the state meet. Anne played basketball four years, serving as co-captain her senior year. Her post season resulted with regional runner-up and state tournament advancement. Ann’s efforts were honored with 3rd team All District and Honorable Mention All-Region awards.
Ann’s three-year career in volleyball was highlighted with 2nd team All-District as a sophomore, and 1st team All-District and All-Region her junior and senior years. The volleyball team voted her captain her senior year. Anne’s greatest accomplishments happened during her two seasons as catcher on the softball team. She was 1st team All-District and All-Regional both years, 1st team All-State as a junior and 2nd team All-State as a senior. The softball team voted her captain her senior year.
After graduation Anne continued her athletic versatility at Greensboro College by adding tennis to her list of sports. Anne was the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (DIAC) singles champion as a sophomore and senior and runner-up in her junior year. She was also All-Conference three times and three-time team MVP. Anne was a 4 year member of the basketball team and advanced to the Division III Tournament in 1997.
Volleyball continued to be Anne’s forte with a national ranking in service aces. She was a member of the 1997 DIAC Conference Championship team and chosen to the All-Conference team each of her 4 years. Anne’s induction into the Greensboro College Hall Of Fame occurred on April 10, 2010, and in 2012 the 1996 basketball team’s Hall of Fame induction took place.
Anne returned to the valley area and coached at several schools over the years. In 2000 she was chosen as by the Staunton News-Leader as Volleyball Coach of the Year for her success at Wilson Memorial High School. Anne currently lives in Grottoes and teaches in the Rockingham Country School System.
