Valerie Sampson joins her mother, Sarah, and brother, Ralph, as a member of the Harrisonburg High School Hall of Fame. Val was a four year starter on Blue Streak basketball teams that won three district and two regional championships.
The 1979, 1980 and 1981 teams combined for a record of 45 wins and 22 losses. The 1981 team finished with 23 wins and one loss, the only loss was by a single point in the state semi-final game. Val was a three-time All-District and two-time All-Regional selection and finished her career with 948 points and a current school-record 1006 rebounds.
In track, Val was a member of three district championship teams (1979, 1980 and 1981), the 1979 and 1981 regional champions, and the 1979 state championship team. In individual events, Val was a member of three state champion teams in the 4x200m relays. After graduating from HHS, Val took her talents to Charlottesville, where she competed in track at the University of Virginia.
