George Kostis ranks at the top of individual wrestlers in the history of Harrisonburg High School. A four year performer, he is the only Blue Streak wrestler to reach the State AA finals three times, and one of only two HHS wrestlers to win two individual state championships. George was undefeated during his junior year, and in the state tournament that year no opponent scored a point against him. George also won two Valley District and two regional championships during his Blue Streak career. He compiled an overall record of 67 wins and 11 losses.
In addition to his wrestling accomplishments, George was also a member of the Blue Streak football team for four years. After graduation, George wrestled at Appalachian State University for four years and finished 3rd in the Southern Conference Tournament two of those years. His coach at HHS, John Seal, says that “George always demonstrated character and sportsmanship as an HHS athlete, and was a pleasure to coach.” George now resides in Vilas, North Carolina, where he has been a licensed general contractor since 1989.
