Donald F. Burgess, Sr.
Class of 1964 Lucy Simms High School
Don Burgess, Sr. was a two sport star in both baseball and basketball at the Lucy Simms School in Harrisonburg before it was integrated into the Harrisonburg City School system.  Don played 4 years of baseball and 5 years of basketball, and was a member of the 1962 state championship team at Simms.

Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Don has made great contributions to generations of students and athletes in Harrisonburg. As a long-time employee of the Harrisonburg City Schools, Don has served as a supporter, friend and role model to young people through his attendance at sporting events involving HHS students and through the personal relationships he has established in his work and in the community.

Always referred to as “Mr. Burgess” by the young people who know him, Don presents a friendly, positive image and is always available to provide support whenever needed.  After his high school playing days were over Don spent many years participating in the baseball, softball and basketball activities among the recreation leagues in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County.
