From 1991-1995, Leema Madden Sinclair was a four year performer in both basketball and track at HHS. She was a three year starter at point guard on the basketball team and was a valuable contributor on both offense and defense, ranking 5th all-time at HHS in both assists and steals.
Leema was a dominant force on the track, especially in the 100m sprint and the long jump. The team won the state championship her junior year (1994) and Leema was the state champion in the long jump, finished 2nd in the 100 meters and was a member of the state championship 4x100 relay team. As a senior in 1995, Leema was the state champion in the 100m and a member of the state championship 4x100 relay team. During her Blue Streak career, Leema also finished runner-up and 6th in the long jump and runner–up and 4th in the 100m at the state meets.
Academically, Leema was a member of both the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society.
After graduation from HHS, Leema went to Christopher Newport University where she again excelled in basketball and track. In basketball, she started every game at point guard all 4 years, becoming the school’s 3rd ranked player in both assists and steals and scoring 873 career points.
In track, Leema was a dominant athlete, she was the conference champion in both the 100m and 200m each of her four years at CNU and was the Division III National Champion in the 100m in both her junior and senior years. Leema anchored the CNU national championship 4x100 relay team, was the winner of 6 individual Mason-Dixon Conference Championships and was named an All-American in 9 individual events over her four year career. Leema was named Academic All-Conference for the 1997-98 academic year.
For her achievements as an athlete Leema was inducted in the Christopher Newport University Hall of Fame in 2005. Leema returned to Harrisonburg and served as an assistant track coach at HHS. She now works as a paralegal for the Ritchie Law Firm in Harrisonburg.
