James M. Conis
Class of 1979
Athlete
Jim Conis was a four year performer for the outstanding football and wrestling teams at HHS from 1976 through 1979. Jim was a First Team All-State linebacker on the 1978 Blue Streak football team that is considered one of the greatest in HHS history. He was an anchor of a defense that yielded only 6 points in 10 regular season games. The team ended the season with a record of 13 wins and a lone loss to eventual state champion Southhampton in the state semi-finals.
Jim was equally talented as a wrestler. As a junior in 1977-78, he won his weight class at the HHS Christmas Invitational Tournament and followed that up as regional champion and participant in the state tournament. The 1978-79 Blue Streak wrestling team finished as state runners-up. Jim was an all-district and all-regional performer and capped his career with a 3rd place finish in the state in his weight class.
After graduating from HHS, Jim attended the University of North Carolina on a full football scholarship. He played linebacker at UNC all four years and was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic team. He graduated from UNC in 1983 and then earned a Master’s Degree from George Washington University in 1989 and an M.B.A from Brigham Young University in 1990. Jim now resides in Orem, Utah. He has just published his first book: “The Latter Rain”, which will be released soon.
